Velvet Chocolate Truffles

I was lucky enough to be sent this box of handmade truffles after meeting Sarah from Velvet Chocolate Truffles at Taste of Christmas back in December. There are two sides of the company with one half supplying chocolate fountains, perfect for events such as weddings and corporate parties, and the other dedicated to creating delicious chocolate trufflesVelvet Chocolate Truffles are individually crafted so they come in different shapes and sizes as they are not made using moulds. The truffles contain no additives or preservatives and are made using fresh ingredients including fresh cream. Each truffle is rolled in flakes of pure Belgian chocolate – what luxury! This particular gift box contains 250g of milk, dark and white chocolate truffles which are discussed individually below. You can certainly tell each of these were made lovingly by hand, something I rarely come across these days.

White Velvet Truffle

I knew this truffle was white chocolate without even looking at it as it smells wonderfully sweet, as does most white chocolate. The truffle is coated in flakes of white chocolate instead of a shell casing which some truffles have. It says on the card with the box that because of this “you experience pure soft chocolate truffle from the very first moment”. This isn’t altogether true I don’t think as the chocolate flakes are quite chunky so form a slightly hard coat. This doesn’t matter as they are very nice tasting truffles and the softness was experienced once through the flakes.

When biting into the truffle I could taste the sweetness straight away. It’s a very rich creamy tasting truffle. They are not small so you are able to make the truffle last that little bit longer and savour the taste, which is great because I like to enjoy chocolate over time whilst watching a good film or TV programme.  I made it last for 6 bites!

Milk Chocolate Truffle

This again is not a small truffle so lasts a while, you certainly get your money’s worth! The centre of the truffle is thick and creamy and melts in the mouth perfectly. The chocolate was of good quality and with a shelf life of just three months from production, you know the ingredients are fresh.

Velvet Chocolate

Velvet Chocolate Truffles believe it is important to increase people’s awareness of the rising obesity across the UK and help establish what is classed as ‘fine chocolate.’  Sarah claims she will never use any vegetable oils or any of the ‘yucky’ stuff in her truffles in a bid to keep the products as natural as possible. If there is such a thing, could these truffles be regarded as a guilt-free ‘healthy’ chocolate? We’d certainly like to think so! The truffles are also gluten free.

Dark Chocolate Truffle

This dark truffle had a strong essence of rich dark chocolate. Much to the relief of my husband, this chocolate wasn’t dusted like some dark  truffles I’ve previously come across, which meant I wasn’t left in a powdery mess with smudges of cocoa all over my cream sofa! This was my favourite chocolate, mainly because my love of dark chocolate has somewhat escalated in recently months and partly because these seemed to be the largest of all the truffles. Like with the rest of the box, the chocolate had a thick, rich truffle centre and it was incredibly smooth and melted nicely.

All in all these truffles were rather yummy and I wouldn’t think twice buying them for someone or receiving a box for myself as a gift. The truffles were marginally similar in size, texture etc., which illustrated their delicate craftsmanship.  Velvet Chocolate Truffles also sell 100g packs of individual truffles in flavours of lemon, cappuccino, strawberry (my favourite), intense dark and dark chocolate orange. We have reviewed lemon in our  Mother’s Day post and strawberry in our Easter post which is coming very soon!

Make sure you look out for Sarah at this year’s Taste of Christmas, where you will be able to sample her handmade truffles. Support small independent British businesses by trying these individual handmade truffles this spring. You can order a gift selection or a  pack of one of the flavoured truffles here

Bare in mind that these truffles have a shelf life of just 3 months……….mine didn’t last nearly as long as that! (I had eaten them within a day of receiving them!)

Living life, loving cake,
