What better way to start your Friday than with our weekly round-up of some of the many sweet treats we’ve eaten this week. Here’s five of our favourites! Clockwise from L-R
1. This was delicious. A moist chocolate sponge with a gooey chocolate topping, whipped cream in a shot glass and all drizzled with caramel sauce. This was at Bergamote Salon de Thé & Creperie (number 1 on TripAdvisor) in St. Malo, Brittany, France opposite the cathedral. We had a lovely late lunch at this place which was recommended to us by the lovely young man in Philippe Bouvier’s the chocolatier, before we set sail for home on Brittany Ferries.
2. Geoff and I enjoyed a very nice meal at Le Clubhouse at Les Ormes golf club near Combourg, Brittany followed by this chocolate macaron which was very fresh and tasty. Containing small bits of hazelnuts and a dense chocolate centre, it was served with whipped cream and redcurrants. Not only is it a golf club but also a huge holiday complex with some large straw tree houses to stay in.
3. Yesterday I had lunch with a friend at Artisan Café in Chichester, West Sussex. Good friendly service, a nice light lunch of brie, grape and walnut tartine and of course, to finish it off, something sweet. A large slice of yoghurt & berry sponge. Very light and moist.
4. When Helen came home from Hong Kong where she had been to the Mooncake Festival, she brought with her lots of different mooncakes. This one came in a sweet little red padded box to keep and was dark chocolate with a rich dark chocolate centre. Much nicer than the one I had a few years ago which had an egg in the middle – I didn’t attempt to eat that one!
5. Last but not least – and I’ve saved the best for last – this delightful 3D coffee art from Coffee Amo, Kuala Lumpur (I’m sure Helen has a post on her visit to Malaysia coming soon – get writing Helly). Helen had walked 30 minutes especially for this and stupidly asked for an Americano. D’oh! And it cost her £4. Then she remembered why she had gone to that particular coffee house and quickly ordered another coffee just for the coffee art. I think it was definitely worth it.
