What better way to start your Friday than with our weekly round-up of some of the many sweet treats we’ve eaten this week in England and Australia. Here’s five of our favourites!

Hey we’re back! We’ve had some technical glitches but are back with a vengeance.

1. One of Helen’s Aussie favourites, banana bread. This time she made it herself at the cattle station she’s currently working on in Western Australia, where she not only cooks but musters the cattle and lots of other hard work from dawn until dusk. Thankfully I can get it locally at Southsea Coffee Co topped with mascarpone, berries, sliced bananas and drizzled with honey. I remember visiting Brickwood Coffee & Bread in Clapham, London with Helen a few times where we had some delicious banana bread there served with espresso butter. Yum. Check out Helen’s Instagram page where you’ll see lots of beautiful photos in and around the cattle station.

2. My kind sister Gill treated me to an evening meal at Amelie and Friends in Chichester using a Groupon voucher. We had a very nice meal of pork belly, my favourite. It could have done with being cooked a little longer and slower but still very tasty. The dessert we enjoyed was Pineapple Soufflé with Pineapple & Chilli Salsa and Coconut Cocktail, very nice indeed. Local paintings were upon the walls, new chairs and perhaps new tables? The tables were set at an angle and we thought it all looked much nicer. Gone were the wall lights that looked like they were taken out of the gent’s toilets 😉 . The conservatory looked very warm and cosy with soft lighting and a chandelier. The garden looked lovely too with the olive trees lit up. We also had a piece of fudge each with our coffee which was very apt as it happened to be ‘National Fudge Day‘. I do like something sweet with my coffee.

3. Here’s one we had in Australia which seems an age away now. I can still remember it very well, although tinged with a little sadness as we are now on the opposite side of the world to Helen. An evening meal at The Grain Store, Melbourne where this dessert was our favourite – we had three between us – Black Forest gâteau, chocolate brownie, black cherries, yoghurt kirsch panna cotta. The following day we returned and enjoyed a very tasty breakfast before setting off for a trip around the Yarra Valley for a few days.

4. Recently Geoff and I visited Southsea Castle where the Yellow Kite Café once was. The Courtyard have now taken over and we had a spot of lunch. We each had a nice ciabatta, mine was Grilled Halloumi, Avocado, Lime and Chilli Jam, Baby Leaves, Geoff’s Steak Strips, Blue Cheese, Red Onion, Mayonnaise, Rocket  but without the mayo’ and blue cheese as he’s fussy. Both tasty and nicely presented – although served on wooden boards, a pet hate of mine along with slates. Everything falls off them! Aargh.

5. I’ve visited Cassons in Tangmere near Chichester three times in the last two months and each time I’ve liked it very much. Father’s Day was our last visit and we took Geoff’s parents along too. A set meal at a very good price with this superb chocolate dessert, Chocolate mousse, salted caramel and white chocolate ice creams, chocolate sauce, chocolate brownie, mint glass. Check out their website as they also have set price menu’s and regularly have special evening events such as a 9 course tasting menu which sounds right up my street.
